Mariia Zemnitckaia

Mariia Zemnitckaia was born in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. She started her piano lessons at an early
age. At the age of 9 she already performed a Haydn Divertimento with the Youth Chamber Orchestra
of Saint-Petersburg State University in the Small hall of Saint-Petersburg Philharmonia (conductor A.
Alexeev). In 2010–2014 Mariia studied at the Saint-Petersburg College of Music named after N.A.
Rimsky-Korsakov (teacher O. Andreeva). She received various awards at international competitions
and festivals in Saint-Petersburg, among them the “D.Kabalevsky international festival”, and “The Lyra
competition”. In 2014 Mariia entered the Saint-Petersburg State Conservatory named after N.A.
Rimsky-Korsakov (Professor V. Mischouk), from where she graduated with honors in 2019. In August
2017 Mariia performed a Mozart concerto with the student chamber orchestra of Joutseno Taidekesä
(conductor Janne Valkeajoki) in Joutseno, Finland. During her studies at the Conservatory she
performed as pianist and harpsichordist in the Symphonic Orchestra of Saint-Petersburg Conservatory
in famous concert halls such as the Great Hall of Saint-Petersburg Philharmonia, and the Mariinsky
theatre. In November 2019 Mariia gave chamber music concerts in France (Grenoble, Valence, Die)
with her chamber ensemble “Suomenlahti Trio” (Greta Ernesaks, cello and Nicolas Mizen, saxophone)
that was founded at the Sibelius Academy. During the autumn 2020 she studied with Einar Henning
Smebye at the Norwegian Academy of Music (Oslo, Norway), following Erasmus+ exchange program.
Presently Mariia studies with Professor of Piano Emeritus Erik T. Tawaststjerna and Dr. Hui-Ying Liu-
Tawaststjerna at the Sibelius Academy (Helsinki, Finland). In addition, she has attended master
classes of A. Sokolov (China), Elizabeth Thompson (UK), Gerard Willems (Australia), Stefan Bojsten
(Sweden), Sandra Chamoux (France), Juris Kalnciems (Latvia).
